Universally recognized as agronomically suitable and the most extensively used system in hybrid breeding and seed production (Amankwa et al. 2014; Haji et al. 2000, 2007; Kubo 1981; Lawson et al. 2002); generally no negative impact on agronomic performance (Chaplin and Ford 1965; Kubo 1981,1985, 2005); increased susceptibility to potato virus Y and to frog eye versus alloplasmic isogenic counterparts (Berbeć and Laskowska 2005); heavily depressed seed yield (Naumenko 2012) and reduced female fertility in combination with some nuclear genotypes caused by malformations of entire carpels (Berbeć and Doroszewska, unpublished observations)
